Palm Sunday & Easter

Palm Sunday marks the onset of the Holy Week, the week that marks the last days of Jesus Christ on this earth. It fell on April 10th this year, followed by Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday, on April 17th.

Palm Sunday recalls an event in the Christian Scriptures (The New Testament) of Jesus entering Jerusalem and being greeted by the people waving palm branches. For Christians, it is a reminder of the welcoming of Jesus into our hearts and of our willingness to follow him.

Easter Sunday is the most incredible feast in the Christian calendar. While our society emphasizes Christmas, no other day is traditionally as sacred for the Christian community as Easter. This is the day Christians commemorate the resurrection of Christ.

A few volunteers and I got together and decided to have special days at the soup kitchen where I volunteer! For Palm Sunday, we got Palms to hand out to every client that would want one! We also got apple pies for every client. For Easter, we got decorations for the yard and created a couple of wreaths. Once again, I had to iron the wreath bows, and they were delivered via Amazon in a mess! We purchased rotisserie chickens from Costco for the meal and made the sides of mashed potatoes and green beans in the kitchen. And we polished it off with apple pies from Costco! We also handed out chocolates to the clients!

Easter usually ends with festive celebrations with special foods and Easter delicacies.

Once again, I want to thank everybody who helped pull this project together. So many helped with raising funds, and others gave their time to this cause. Thanks!

Easter is meant to be a symbol of hope, renewal, and new life.
